Blogger Behind the Blog {The Money Shed}

Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Jon from The Money Shed.

Blogger Behind the Blog {The Money Shed}

Here’s Jon with more about his blogging life:

Where did your blog name come from?

I spent quite a few hours chatting to people online. At one point it was going to be The Money Kennel

When did you start your blog and why?

I wanted to create an alternative to MoneySavingExpert which was more flexible on the rules and allowed users to earn money through my site by sharing their affiliate links whenever they want.

What did you do before you blogged?

I work full time in ICT for Local Government however I’ve run some websites before including an online radio station back in the late 90s!

What was your first post?

It was a post about how to earn money from your laptop by working for text Q&A service 63336/Bongo

What inspires you to blog?

The feedback I get back from my users / readers who tell me how The Money Shed has changed their life financially for the better!

What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?

It would have to be the ‘Beginners Guide to earning online toolkit’ as you can earn an easy £700-£1000+ a month alone from the information in the blog post

Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?

Not really know, I would say I write very much for my community and after 3+ years I know what works well for them.

Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?

Probably where it is now to be honest. Growth in size has been very organic and that always takes a lot of time.

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

I always feel proud whenever I put up a new blog post each Monday and waiting to see how it does.

…and your least favourite?

Social media scheduling, WITHOUT A DOUBT!

What’s the best blog post you have ever read?

Would have to be this post about getting an NUS card – It’s saved me SO MUCH MONEY!!

What blog do you love to read and why?

As odd as it sounds I always read Jo’s posts on Slummy Single Mummy – Her writing style is always very funny and draws you in!

Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?

I am all over social media these days which is something I held out from for about 18 months!

Is blogging what you expected it to be?

Yes, very much so. I think the promotion side of blogging can come as a shock to people though.

What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?

Probably my first collaboration with the original guys at Field Agent who now run Task360. It was the first time a company reached out to me and wanted to use The Money Shed for exposure!

Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?

Not really, I’m always happy to work with anyone connected in the personal finance world but there’s not one major brand I am after.

Have you had any blogging fails so far?

I spent a FORTUNE at the start on paying for advertising on blogs which were just the wrong demographic but it takes these sort of mistakes to really get to where you need to be I think.

What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?

Just to bring more money in from my site and to get yet more exposure to new audiences.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Sport!! Both watching AND playing!!

and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself

I once served Vanessa Veltz breakfast at the height of her morning daytime TV chat show reign!
