I’ve now been off work for 12 Months!

A year ago today was my last day at work before I went on maternity leave. I’d only been back at work six months since returning from my maternity leave with LP and it had flown by. It was the day before Good Friday and I was looking forward to 8 weeks of relaxing and spending quality time with LP before the baby arrived. In the end I had 6 weeks of feeling enormous, lethargic and fed up before Little Man arrived 16 days early.

I've now been off work for 12 Months!

The last year has flown by. It really has been the quickest year of my life and yet it feels like an eternity ago that I was last at work. I also can’t remember a huge amount of the last year unless I think incredibly hard – This year is one big blur of night feeds and lack of sleep!

The last year has been so eventful and yet so exhausting. It’s been so much harder than being at work every day and yet it’s been so incredibly rewarding – There’s nowhere I would rather have been.

I am still trying to sort out my return to work – I’m no further forward on that front really, and am due back on 13th May when my ‘official’ maternity leave kicked in but I’ll be taking annual leave to stay off work just a little bit longer. This year off so far may have been challenging and amazing all in one but the year is also not quite long enough – Another few months will be lovely!

I had 15 months off work with LP and it looks like I’ll be off about the same amount by the time I return this time. I really appreciate working for a company with a good maternity package and the fact that we saved like crazy when we had LP and paid off debts to make sure I could have the full year of maternity leave off – with annual leave either side. I cannot imagine having to go back to work any earlier.

12 months away from work. It’s gone so incredibly quickly!

I bet it has flown! Time with my son has gone really quickly. Great that you’re in a position to have so much time off, and I hope that you manage to negotiate the return to work that you’re after x

That’s great that you are able to take a bit longer, a year really does fly by and I agree that I couldn’t imagine going back earlier. It all goes by so fast when your so busy. Enjoy your remaining time and good luck going back x

It does fly by when you are looking after children doesn’t it. I agree that being at home is harder and more exhausting than being at work – there are days I long to be back in an office away from smelly nappies and screaming children but, like you, I wouldn’t really change it.

I hope you manage to sort something out that works for you and work.
