Imagine, Gin and Jumpers #LittleLoves

Oh what a busy week this one has been! I’m off to Blog On this weekend and so I have been crazy busy getting ahead of myself with work so that I can have a weekend off. Blog On is literally my favourite blogging occasion of the year – and as it’s twice a year it makes me super happy!

Here are a few things we’ve been loving this week:

Read

John Lennon’s Imagine is one of my favourite songs and it’s now been made into a really lovely children’s book. It was launched yesterday on the International Day of Peace which I think is just so fitting and it’s been created in association with Amnesty International.

It’s the most beautiful book and the children love it. The pigeon character is so sweet and the perfect figurehead for a book about world peace. LP and Little Man loved that the bird was trying to bring everyone together, showing them that they could live happily side by side and, although the book’s message was a simple one, they really enjoyed it.

I also started reading Read This If You Want to be Instagram Famous. Now, I don’t want to be Insta-famous and I’m really just trying to have a nice feed on there but this book has inspired me to take different photos and to think outside my Instagram box a little bit more. It’s easy to read, includes so many great Instagram accounts and has definitely given me renewed enthusiasm for Instagram.

Watched

Carrying on the Instagram theme I have started watching (and doing) Insta Stories… I still don’t really see the point of Stories but I’m quite enjoying sharing snippets of my life that I wouldn’t share anywhere else and I love watching everyone else’s Stories before bed each night. It’s addictive. Quite like a soap on the TV or something. I like it.

I also watched Little Boy Blue which was a TV series about Rhys Jones’ murder in 2007 in Liverpool. It was so well acted and absolutely heart breaking but it shows how gang crime can really tear families apart. Well worth watching but so hard to watch at the same time.

Heard

As we have been reading Imagine with the children we also played them the song, and I love it. It’s so timeless and so full of meaning. I don’t think there will ever be a time when I don’t love this song.

I’ve also had songs from Doc McStuffins in my head a lot this week – kill me now.

Made

We’ve carried on our weekly baking sessions and this week’s masterpiece was Pineapple Upside Down Cake. LP chose this one and it turned out so well. We will definitely be making it again – and we had it for dessert with custard. It was lovely!

I’ve also been making G&Ts. You all know how much I love gin and tonic and we’ve been trying Elephant Gin from 31Dover. Every time a bottle of this gin is bought 15% of the profits are donated to two foundations that are devoted to the conservation of wildlife in Africa. It’s nice to know that Hubby and I can drink really good quality gin and help save the elephants at the same time. That is definitely something to drink to!

Wore

It’s totally autumn now isn’t it?! I have cracked out a few winter jumpers this week but we are without wardrobes for at least another week so the majority of my winter wardrobe is in the loft as I just have nowhere to put it. I’ll be getting ti out as soon as possible!

and lastly…

I may have invested in the most exciting invention of my life… a melon slicer! It’s just like an apple slicer but it is big enough to slice melons. Yes, this is the extent of excitement in my life. Look how pretty it is!

If you’re at Blog On this weekend come and say hello – it’s always lovely to meet people I talk to online all the time and see others again that I haven’t seen for a while. Have a great weekend whatever you get up to.

Ooh, love that melon slicer! I am also listening to Imagine while I read your post. It reads better with a soundtrack 😉 Love the sound of that book, I might buy it for my two. Look forward to seeing you Sunday!

That melon does look pretty! I wish I was going to blog on. That instagram book sounds great as does the kids one. We read the octopus’ garden this summer. #littleloves

Imagine sounds like a lovely book. Im thinking of doing Olivia a book advent this year and think that it would make the perfect addition. Your pineapple upside down cake looks very yummy. I hope you had a great time at Blog On.

Yay for Instagram Stories. It’s addictive once you start sharing isn’t it? I got my phone wet at my beach shoot the other week and have managed to wreck the sound on it so my phone thinks I permanently have headphones plugged in! So no more recording Stories for me. Boo.
Like the sound of that gin. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
Hope you enjoyed Blog On! xx

Yay to the melon slicer! I had an apple slicer like this and it was so, so useful when my kids would only eat slices instead of a whole apple! Love winter jumpers and cosy knits, just perfect. That book about Instagram sounds really interesting, love the idea of it – I’ll never be Instafamous but I do LOVE stories. I think it’s great for sharing little bits and bobs throughout your day that you wouldn’t ordinarily put on your feed. I’ve also done a bit of recording myself which is very ‘out there’ for me – I’ll NEVER be a vlogger! Obviously my daughter delights in taking the piss so I’ve blocked her from my stories ha ha!
