I’m Going to #BML16

Well after trying to sort out childcare for Britmums Live and nearly selling my ticket at one point, I am so glad to be able to say that I’m going! YAY! This will be my third year at the conference and I can’t wait for that familiar buzz, the great venue and so many happy blogger faces!

Britmums have set up the I’m Going to #BML16 Linky where we can all introduce ourselves as a bit of an ice breaker. So here goes – a bit about me:

My name: Donna

My blog: What the Redhead said – it’s a bit of an eclectic mix really!

Find me on social media at: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram mainly. I love Instagram and spend most of my day on social media somewhere – especially in the UK Parent Bloggers Facebook group which I’m admin for – feel free to join if you’re not a member already!

How I look:

Well, this was me at Blog On, the last conference I went to and it is pretty much what I look like at conferences – in a ball pool, obviously.

Is this my first blogging event? Nope, I’ve been to Britmums for the last two years – you can read about 2015 here and 2014 here – where I felt like a very small fish in a very big pond. First conferences are always a bit daunting but incredible at the same time.

I will be wearing… I haven’t a clue! It could be a dress and boots, it could be jeans and converse or it could be something a bit more summery. We shall see!

What I hope to gain from #BML16: I go to conferences now for the social side. I love catching up with blogging friends, meeting bloggers that I have only ever spoken to online and really just being as social as possible. But, I always love to try and learn something new too so I am looking forward to at least a couple of sessions and would love to get to know some new brands too.

My tips for a great conference: Do whatever you want to do. If you don’t feel like going to sessions you don’t have to, but if you want to go to every single one then go for it! It’s your time to use as you want to.

My biggest tip would be to make a list of people you want to meet. if it gets to lunch time and you haven’t managed to spot a couple you can always tweet them and see where they are. My first year I met so many people and loved having a list. Complete fan girl but I will do it this year too!

Also, if you’re nervous about going by yourself, make arrangements to meet someone at the station, at your hotel or just outside the venue. It can be daunting but once you’re there you’ll feel a lot more at ease.

This year SlimFast are sponsoring me to attend Britmums Live and I’m chuffed that they’re working with me in this capacity. I’ve lost a stone so far this year following this plan and will hopefully be slimmer still this time next month!

If you’re going to Britmums please do come and say hello – I’ll be the ginger one saying ‘It’s so exciting!’ – I love Britmums!

I don’t think I will be attending this year. A bit disappointed but it’s my husband’s birthday on that day, plus lot’s of other birthdays in the family that week, so we have a big family get together organized. Shame as I live in East London so not too far from the venue, I guess I will have to wait til next year!

Hi Donna, Hope to see you there. I’ve booked my ticket and a hotel room too. You’re right about making a list of people you want to meet. My problem is I’ve suggested meeting up for a drink with so many blogging and Twitter friends, we’ll all be there for a week! Either that or each conversation will be 3 minutes long which never feels enough does it.
Good luck in your category and look out for me in my festival costume – it’s 2 days after EU referendum so whatever the result I’ll be covered in party balloons from the Andrew Marr/Huw Edwards all-nighters. Jo x

Ah I do wish I was going this year. It’s never really been something I’ve wanted to do before but I’d like to now. Maybe next year. Have an amazing time!

Donna you are like blogging royalty – I am in awe of how you manage to post such frequent and fab content whilst juggling a job and two little people – and moderating the blogging group on Facebook! I hope to be able to say Hi to you at Britmums 🙂 xx
