Holding Hands {The Ordinary Moments}

Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.

Holding Hands {The Ordinary Moments}

Little Man is still quite a shy little soul. He is confident and outgoing around people he knows, outspoken in school but shy and hesitant when he’s in a new situation or around new people. It’s a good trait to have though – I’d rather he erred on the side of caution than spoke to anyone in the street but it means that often he will hold my hand, making himself as small as possible next to me whilst hiding in the shadows.

I’ve come to know his personality so well, his quirks, what makes him happy, what makes him sad and the times when I know he’ll become introverted and nervous. Along with that I’ve always loved the feel of his little hand in mine – from his toddler days through to now. I have always loved having him by my side, holding my hand and keeping me company.

Little Man holds my hand as often as he can. He holds it to and from school, whenever we get out of the car and whenever we walk out of the front door. Holding my hand will always be a priority of his and if we’re on a day out he’ll make sure he comes back from playing every so often to hold my hand, however briefly, before dashing off to play again.

I don’t know how long this little boy will want to hold my hand for. I don’t know whether one day he’ll suddenly stop or whether it will phase out gradually. But, what I do know, is that I will always be there to hold his hand and I will always love the feeling of his little hand in mine, just as long as he wants to hold my hand. Whether that’s to keep him steady – like the photos today, walking along a wall – or whether it’s to make him feel safe, give him reassurance or just because he wants to be as close to me as possible. Whatever the reason, I’m going to appreciate every single hand hold as long as they last – children really don’t stay little for long.

  1. Aww that is a beautiful post and it really is one of those bittersweet moments that does eventually go. My middle child is very much like this too and still will hold my hand at nearly 10 when he feels uncomfortable in situations. Not quite the school run anymore. They are little for such a short time. xx
