There really is no pie like a Higgidy’s pie and if you haven’t yet tried one you really must do so soon – it’s pie week this week after all! Over the last couple of years Hubby and I have tried most of the Higgidy’s range and they are pies we have both come to know and love. We each have our favourite flavours – I love the meaty ones and Hubby loves the ones with cheese – between us I don’t think we’d turn down any of Higgidy’s products.
We were recently sent some of Higgidy’s new Hand Pulled Pork and Sweet Potato Pies to review and couldn’t wait to try them. Like with a lot of Higgidy’s pies I saw them as a complete meal in a pie, with the lovely sweet potato topping. The pies are a great size to share but Hubby and I tend to have one each with slightly less accompaniments than we would have with a standard pie.
The Higgidy Hand Pulled Pork & Sweet Potato Pie is a limited edition pie, one of Higgidy’s ‘Special Guest’ range and picked as the winner of the Higgidy Recipe Hunt. The pie is made up of hand folded shortcrust pastry filled with British pulled pork and red peppers in a rich smoky tomato sauce, topped with a heap of roasted sweet potato mash. The flavour combinations are wonderful and the filling is different to anything I have had before in a pie.
Unlike traditional pies that you serve with mash, gravy and vegetables I think the Hand Pulled Pork and Sweet Potato Pie would go well with a salad and wedges, a rice salad or even potato salad and corn on the cob. It has a real summery feel to it and I cannot wait to have it again.
Disclosure: We were sent the above pies for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
