It’s that time of year where kids are getting excited about Halloween, bonfire night and all things spooky. So, to get in the mood with them I decided to make a little Halloween recipe, their favourite dinner with a fun Halloween twist.

LP and Little Man absolutely love meatballs and tagliatelle and so it was super easy to make this favourite meal Halloween themed – turning it into Mummy Meatballs!

Halloween Food Ideas: Mummy Meatballs

Can you make these easy Halloween meatballs as party food?

This isn’t really Halloween party food like many Halloween recipes but it’s definitely a fun and spooky Halloween meal idea – and I just wish I could help more with party food ideas. They’re next on my list!

We’re used to cooking these meatballs on the hob in a frying pan with a little olive oil for a few minutes but you could also leave them to cook in the marinara sauce in the slow cooker. If you wanted you could also make your own meatballs with beef mince and bake them on a baking sheet. Really, it’s whatever works for you.

We use Swedish meatballs for this recipe as they’re so simple and quick to cook but you could also use chicken meatballs or veggie meatballs. Any meatballs work well. When having these for dinner we serve them sprinkled with cheese alongside garlic bread and a large salad to share.

If you don’t feel like you have enough pasta after making all your Meatball Mummies you could add extra pasta to your dish before serving to create a heartier meal.

Here’s the Mummy Meatballs recipe if you’d like to make it for yourself.

Ingredients:

Recipe

  • Cook meatballs as per packet instructions and leave to cool slightly.
  • Cook tagliatelle as per packet instructions and leave to cool slightly.
  • Wrap each meatball in tagliatelle – it takes about two strips of tagliatelle per meatball.
  • Cook the meatball sauce on the hob and then place the meatballs on a bed of meatball sauce.
  • Finish by placing edible eyes on each meatball.

The children love these Mummy Meatballs as, by the time they get them, they are the perfect temperature to eat – and are warmed up nicely by the meatball sauce too. You can use both meat or vegetarian meatballs and it’s a really simple but fun dinner that compliments Halloween perfectly. I’m looking forward to creating more Halloween food ideas as the season progresses. What are your favourite recipes for Halloween?
