This half term we were invited to be part of Apples to Pears Half Term Gift in a Tin Club. They have a great range of Gift in a Tin products that are exactly what it says on the tin – a complete fun gift in a gift box.
LP was sent a Natural History Museum Dippy the Diplodocus Gift in a Tin which we planned to work on over the course of the half term break. When we opened the tin we saw that the dinosaur pieces were all well organised and numbered with step by step instructions with photos to guide you through the building process.
The set also comes with glue and a fun set of dinosaur fact cards so you can learn all about dinosaurs whilst building the dinosaur. LP loved this and started reading facts to us straight away.
LP loved building Dippy. She was able to follow the instructions, find the right pieces and put it together herself. She just needed my help to press the pieces out from their wooden surround and she also gave me the job of being in charge of the glue!
Sometimes she’s put a leg on the wrong way round or the ribs in the wrong places – not realising they were different sizes. But these little errors were simple to correct and I think she did an amazing job as she’s only six.
The completed dinosaur is a really good size, lightweight and sturdy meaning that the Gift in a Tin can last as long as LP loves dinosaurs. She was so proud of herself for making something that she can treasure forever. She loves Dippy and I know he will have pride of place in her bedroom for a long time to come.
LP’s Gift in a Tin was a great way to pass time over half term and it’s shown me what wonderful gifts they would make too. It was the perfect activity to do during dark evenings and rainy days and I think any child would really love such a creative activity.
The Natural History Museum Dippy the Diplodocus Gift in a Tin has an RRP of £18.00
