Disclosure: We were invited for this meal for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my own.
Last night we went for dinner at our local Pizza Express in Camberley, somewhere we have eaten before but not for a long time. We chose to book our table for 5pm and found the restaurant so lovely and quiet. LP asked if we could sit ‘on a sofa’ so we were given a really nice booth to sit in where LP loved sliding across the seat.
We love Pizza Express as a couple but hadn’t really been with the children before. The children were given activity packs – complete with stickers and a Pizza Express hat which LP loved – and took home with her too! The coloured pencils came in an old tomato tin and everything just worked so well together. The children hardly noticed us ordering as they were just so excited by their activity packs.
The children’s menu had a three course option or just a main for smaller appetites. The starter is a mix of dough balls and chunky vegetable sticks and tomatoes with their very own dish of garlic butter. Both children loved this and it was a really good size for a children’s starter.
Dave had his typical Bruschetta Originale to start which is such a classic dish and Pizza Express make it so well. He really enjoyed it. I had the Classic Italian Antipasto which is new on the menu but something I often get as a starter when eating out. The mix of meats, salad and other additions as well as a good quantity of bread made this such a lovely starter. A really good portion size and one of the best Antipasto starters I have ever had.
For mains LP chose to have an American pepperoni pizza and Little Man had the Napoletana pasta. The menu had a few different pizza and pasta options with something for everyone. Both of their mains were a really good size and came out at a good temperature too.
Dave chose a pizza for his starter – a Sloppy Giuseppe on a romana base. The thinner romana base makes for such a big, filling pizza but with the same amount of dough. The topping had really great flavours and complemented Dave’s starter perfectly.
I chose another new addition to the menu for my main – the Leggera Superfood Salad with added chicken. Often I love a salad – especially if I’ve had a carb filled starter – but often they can be a bit disappointing – like a side salad with a few other things thrown on. This Superfood Salad couldn’t be further form that. It had so many ingredients – all the usual salad components plus oven roasted peppers, a glorious dressing and lots of pulses. There was just so much to it and the flavours were fantastic!
When asked if we’d like dessert we couldn’t say no. LP and Little Man had already decided that they were having ice cream but what arrived for them were the most incredible sundaes, complete with sauce, strawberries and a cone on top. But not only that, they even had a babycino on the side too. This had to be one of the best desserts the children have ever had.
I went for yet another new menu item with the Passionate Mess – a passionfruit slice that had such a lovely, rich and light flavour without being too sickly or overpowering. It was topped with broken meringue pieces and was a really lovely dessert. I had it with mascarpone but could have had cream or ice cream instead.
Dave had the Honeycomb Cream Slice which had a lovely drizzle of salted caramel sauce – although it’s never salty enough for us! Another lovely rich dessert and a great portion size.
We had such a lovely meal at Pizza Express. The staff were fantastic throughout, asking us if we needed anything else and if everything was ok without being overwhelming and they were so good with the children too – patient and entertaining in equal measure!
The new Pizza Express menu is lovely – great additions for the season – and we would definitely go again. By the time we left the restaurant was filling up so for us, with young children, we chose the perfect time to visit.
