A Costly Accident

If you follow me on social media you will probably have seen that I had a little accident last night. I was putting some bottles of poster paint in the loft for storage and carried one more than I should have… The next thing I know there is a scene from a ‘When Tarantino Met The Smurfs’ all the way down the stairs and the hall below. I dropped a bottle of blue poster paint and although the bottle was intact, it had come undone, spraying the walls, front door, radiator and floor as well as the carpet up the stairs.

A Costly Accident

I went into ‘Panic Mode’ and just stood on the loft ladder saying ‘OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD’. Hubby was bathing the kids and took over, going into cleaning mode whilst I finished off bath time. Hubby did an amazing job and cleaned the whole hallway so apart from the stairs carpet there is no sign of blue paint.

But now we have to replace the carpet – Not immediately, it’s liveable, but laughable. We had intended to get new carpet at some point – Our stairs, upstairs landing/hall and two bedrooms are carpeted and we’d intended to replace it all and carpet Little Man’s room at the same time – This plan was a couple of years down the line though!

We have now decided that when we have the money we will carpet the stairs and hall in a hardwearing but not too deep pile carpet – The cats’ hair is a nightmare with any kind of pile! I need inspiration for colour though – Our hallway is half red and half cream and we live in a period house. I would love a carpet runner and those gold bars up the stairs with nicely painted wooden stairs visible underneath but we have no idea what condition the stairs are in under the carpet and they’re very narrow so it probably wouldn’t look great. Instead we will be getting all carpet – This will be a learning curve as we have never really shopped for carpet before!

For now, we will be looking at the aftermath of ‘When Tarantino Met The Smurfs’ and I’ll be trying to laugh about it instead of feeling like a complete idiot!

Talk to your insurance company. We had an incident with permanent marker when Maxi was small and they sent out a specialist cleaner and paid out when he could fix the issue

I feel for you. A cat broke in through our catflap a few weeks ago and left us a nasty mess on our stairs, it has stained and I also can’t seem to get the smell out. No way we can afford to do any recarpeting either so I’ll just have to keep scrubbing until one day carpet gets to the top of our very long ‘things that need doing’ list.

Hope you find something you like in carpet right, I remember going there for a carpet for my first house and being just a bit daunted by the massive choice on offer!

Oh no!! Those moments when you know something is about to happen but you can’t help it are the worst, it happens in slow motion! I hate my sofa so I might accidently carry some paint past it and then Mr C will have to agree to upgrade, thanks for the idea 😉 x

Good old hubby to the rescue !!! I’d go for a sage green sort of colour. I prefer dark green but that will show up every little bit of fluff but I have a sage green in my lounge and I have a dog and it’s a great colour for that sort of traffic. I was lucky, though, as I had no carpets before I moved in, and my mum said she could afford to treat me to the lounge or bedroom so I picked the lounge. For the amount of time I am in the bedroom walking around mats more than suffice.
Happy hunting though right now I bet you have to half smile when you see the blue adornments !!

Oh no what a disaster! Look on the bright side, at least you hadn’t bought a new carpet before you did this!
