Yesterday a brand new series of the hit Nick Jr show, Puffin Rock, launched and the children couldn’t wait to watch it. The new series follows the adventures of puffling Oona, the heroine of the show, and her brother, Baba the baby puffin, as they discover the delights of the wild Irish island on which they live.
In the first episode, Back to the Pond, Oona and Brother Baba help a frog get back to it’s pond on a special overnight adventure. The whole show is full of beautiful animations, cute characters and really lovely songs too.
The rest of the series features the Shrew Crew, Dung Beetles, a baby hedgehog and Oona learns so much alongside her little brother. There is so much that Oona wants to do as they navigate Puffin Way.
Narrated by Irish actor and comedian, Chris O’Dowd and with the voice of Kate McCafferty, Puffin Rock was launched last year to an overwhelmingly positive response and won Best New Preschool Series and Best Animated Preschool Series at the Kidscreen Awards in February.
I can understand why Puffin Rock has won awards and the new series follows on from where the first series left off. It’s all so familiar to the children and it’s a joy for the whole family to watch too. It’s refreshingly easy to listen to with such lovable characters, tales of new friends, first snow, salmon leaps and even a mystery egg. The Puffin Rock narrator is Chris O’Dowd and it’s lovely to have something different from the usual English or American voices on other TV shows and the whole Puffin Rock cast are fantastic.
The new series can be seen on Nick Jr every weekday at 3:10pm and repeated at 8am and 8pm the following day. You can see the trailer here:
