Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Lesley from placeswithed.
Here’s Lesley with more about her blogging life:
Where did your blog name come from?
‘Placeswithed’ – it’s about places where I go with my son, Edward. I thought the name sounded easy to remember.
When did you start your blog and why?
I started it in February this year. I love to write and used to be a journalist so it comes naturally to me. I was inspired by a friend of a friend who is now a full-time blogger.
What did you do before you blogged?
I was and am still a teacher. Before that I was a news reporter.
What was your first post?
It was about a trip to Wales and why I’m blogging.
What inspires you to blog?
Current issues and wanting other parents to know about great places to visit.
What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?
One about hotels being too kid friendly and 10 places to eat out with kids locally.
Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?
One about Cheltenham Spas… I guess it’s not really aimed at my target audience but I took longer than most blogs researching and writing it!
Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?
Hopefully more successful and perhaps making me money!
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Having the freedom to write what I want and discover new places.
…and your least favourite?
When technical things go wrong and I have to try and sort it out!
What’s the best blog post you have ever read?
Probably one by ‘Cash Carraway’ who is not blogging at the moment but she wrote about her experiences with domestic abuse and it was pretty moving. Also one by Whattheredheadsaid about her experience with her mother.
What blog do you love to read and why?
‘Live Your Best Life’ by Cheltenham blogger Jess Cantoni – I like her style and book reviews.
Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?
I’m not so ‘forward’ with other bloggers. I used to DM people to ask for advice.. I’ve kind of realised the etiquette now!
Is blogging what you expected it to be?
Sort of yes.
What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?
With my blog friend LadyJaney
Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?
Waterstones.. love books! Efteling – our favourite place to go. Boden – love their clothes.
Have you had any blogging fails so far?
Probably not fails just hiccups and learning experiences.
What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?
To eventually leave my job as a teacher and become a full time blogger who travels more!
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
Teach, look after the family!
and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself
I hate writing with a blue pen.
