Blogger Behind the Blog {Two Tiny Hands}

Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Karen from Two Tiny Hands.

Here’s Karen with more about her blogging life:

Where did your blog name come from?

Two Tiny Hands became my blog name because of my son.  He was so little and his adorable little hands just made sense at the time.  Now a year on I don’t think it has longevity and don’t love it as much but I love blogging and what my blog has become so I am trying not to let this aspect get me down.

When did you start your blog and why?

I’ve blogged on and off for years but failed to keep the momentum going longer than a month.  This blog has been live since August 2015 and I have been blogging regularly since February 2016 on it.  I wanted a creative outlet I could do from my phone while I fed my son. It is way more than that now though.  It’s become my life and my world and I am really enjoying it.

What did you do before you blogged?

Forgetting about work and motherhood.  I used to sew, crochet, knit.  I volunteered for girl guiding as a Brownie and Guide leader and this all took up a lot of my time.

What was your first post?

A very simple hello world style post.  It’s small and has been edited from its original.  It’s the one occasion I refer to my son in his real name on the blog.

What inspires you to blog?

The obvious answer would be my son and my partner Dave.  The things we do that inspire me to write and share.  Recently though it is other bloggers that inspire me.  You, my tribe, all inspire me to keep going with the content. Improve and better myself.

What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?

Best:  Let’s get Wild –  I’ve gone of stats for this one, my most viewed blog post.

Proud: Knoydart Peninsula – My Scottish holiday I loved my photos, I loved this trip.

Enjoy:  Wearing My Baby – I love carrying my son and writing about my 14 month journey has been fun to look back at old photos and the like.

Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?

I’m pretty lucky with this.  I write positively about my experiences of adventure and things with my family.  No one has ever really said anything bad against this!

Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?

Honestly, still here!  I’m pretty sure I have the drive and determination to carry on though so I am sure I will.

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

The other bloggers.  They motivate me to write better engaging content.  Take better photos.  Every day there is a new surprise and avenue to pursue!

…and your least favourite?

The time it takes up.  The never ending to do list. It really is never ending!

What’s the best blog post you have ever read?

I read a lot of blogs and find it hard to choose one blog.  There is a post however that I read last night that I would love to share with you as it’s in my mind.  It just made sense to me:

What I don’t understand about some moms who write

What blog do you love to read and why?

Squirmy Popple – I love her style and I think because her daughter is very like my son but just a few months older.  A lot of the things she writes about really resonates with me and the things I am going through.

Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?

Promote, promote, promote.  Be that on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.   Join in on linkies too.  Also reading other people blogs, a lot of them.

Is blogging what you expected it to be?

It is more than I expected it to be.  I have fallen in love with it.  I am hooked.

Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?

I would really love to work with some outdoor companies.  Tresspass, Vango, GoOutdoors to name a few.  A lot of the things I write about are our adventures outside as a family and I think I have built up a readership that expect this.

Have you had any blogging fails so far?

Publishing a post rather than saving it before I had finished it.  Thankfully I was able to pull it back but the automatic email sending went out to my readers.  It meant when they clicked my email it failed to link but I had a panic moment!

What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?

To still exist.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Parent. Only joking it is more than this…  We go off on our adventures, be it walking or cycling.  This then gives me the content to blog about though!

Tell us all a random fact about yourself

At 18 I was given a hot air balloon ride as a present.  Thinking this was far too tame I opted to train how to do a static line parachute jump and threw myself out of a plane instead.  I then went back and did it a second time.  We’re foolish when we are young!
