Blogger Behind the Blog {Reduced Grub}

Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Kelly from Reduced Grub.

Blogger Behind the Blog {Reduced Grub}

Here’s Kelly with more about her blogging life:

Where did your blog name come from?

Reduced Grub is exactly what is it. Grub/food that has been reduced. I wanted to pick something that would be easy to remember and also very niche and it is working so far. I have thought of changing it several times though, as many brands will not work with me because of “Reduced” in the title, but I’m over it now.

When did you start your blog and why?

I started my blog last year as I have been a trolley dolly for over 20 years and I needed to branch out and try something new. It has opened up a whole new world, a whole set of head scratching moments and lots of epic fails but I am soldiering on and learning from the masters.

What did you do before you blogged?

Before blogging I was and still am a Long Haul Stewardess and a mum to two children and a stepson.

What was your first post?

My first ever post was for 50p Honey and mustard coleslaw. Which tastes fab and the price is even better.

What inspires you to blog?

I inspire to blog about food, travel and money saving as I am all these things and I want to share my love of it. People often say I can’t afford to eat well and that is a a pile of pants. I want to hopefully make a young mum or a single gentleman feel the love for the food, being savvy and enjoy their creations ( God, how sad do I sound !)

What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?

Currently I am having an amazing response from my Guide to travelling with children by a Stewardess, as people struggle greatly with young children on a long journey in a confined space.

I was recently asked by The Sun to provide a menu for a family of four, breakfast, lunch and dinner for seven days with a budget of £30 using full priced food. It was a great challenge that thankfully was achievable.

My most enjoyable posts are from My forking Travel series, It gives me a great excuse to get out and discover fab places to eat that are off the tourist track.

Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?

I wrote a delicious celeriac salad recipe that is honestly delicious and it bummed, people are just not ready to venture from lettuce and tomato!

Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?

In a year’s time I would like to be moving towards family travel , more reviews and of course more recipes. I am currently with a literacy agent in London with talks about a book, so fingers ( and toes) crossed !

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

There are sooooo many fab things about blogging, the community for one is pretty fab. I am also a big fan of reviews, I am currently waiting for a real Garden pizza oven to be delivered and I am elexcitedo ! Also people enjoying your thoughts is a pretty humbling feeling.

…and your least favourite?

I really dislike saying negative things about products, restaurants or events, as I am not a mean person, but if I have to say something negative, I will always sandwich it between good points.

What’s the best blog post you have ever read?

Katy Kicker produced a fab Pulled pork recipe ( sorry it is food related, my bad greedy habit !) and this has to be my favourite post !

What blog do you love to read and why?

I love many blogs and most of them are frugal, food or money based. Thinking Thrifty is bang on with his humour and I also enjoy Chammy IRL.

Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?

Since I started blogging a year ago, the blogging community has shown me many new paths, tips and ideas and my biggest change would be SEO and affiliate links.

Is blogging what you expected it to be?

Blogging has been a huge eye opener for me and I didn’t realise that there was a big outside world that runs along side the blogging, I also did not think I would get so accustomed to working in my onesie and slippers ( BLISS!!!)

What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?

I have collaborated with Tracy from The Culinary Jumble….If you are on a diet or are cutting down, DO NOT visit her page as her cakes are so amazing, you will be licking the screen !

Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?

I would love to work exclusively with a Supermarket to produce frugal, healthy but fab meals that families would enjoy…..Positive thinking and LOA are on overtime !

Have you had any blogging fails so far?

I have and often still have many blogging fails, I am dyslexic and I often have incorrect spelling or grammar mistakes. I will activate a post and then my Mum will call and say you have spelt this wrong, did you mean this instead of that bla bla bla……but it is part of me and people always have to option of clicking off.

What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?

My biggest blogging hope is to get my book out, hopefully carry on helping families in money dire straits and also most importantly keep on loving it.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

In my spare time ( WTF is that!) I try and do some physical exersize as my butt is forever growing, being a mum taxi service or have friends over to gossip and eat. I also have four hens, so I am forever cleaning chicken poop.

and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself

My random fact is that I speak Turkish.
