Blogger Behind the Blog {Mrs Mummy Penny}

Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Lynn from Mrs Mummypenny.

Here’s Lynn with more about her blogging life:

Where did your blog name come from?

Mrs Mummypenny was devised over a bottle of wine with my good friend Anita. We brainstormed, came up with many names including this gem.

When did you start your blog and why?

I was bored during my third maternity leave and inspiration struck. The blog and social channels were born.

What did you do before you blogged?

I have worked in the corporate world for 16 years, working for brands like Tesco, M&S and EE. I worked in various commercial management roles. I am also a ACMA qualified management accountant.

What was your first post?

It was what financial advice would I give to my 18 year old self. What a slug, I obviously didn’t understand SEO back then..lolol. But I did understand affiliate links as it included a link to Top Cash Back!

What inspires you to blog?

Helping others to understand the complex work of personal finance. Saving people money, Helping people to get a healthier body and mind. If we all had healthy wealth, body and mind we would be in a very good place.

What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?

It would be Confessions of a Personal Finance Blogger. A shorter version was also published on Huffington post. An admission of debt that many people are hiding and I’ve come clean. I share my story every month how we are doing with repaying the debt. I have had hundreds of emails back from people saying thank you and asking for my budget spreadsheet. It’s been amazing.

Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?

I write fabulous money saving posts every days, some get a great response traffic wise, other don’t. It depends what content is sharable!! And if there is a super cool picture!

Where do you see your blog in a year’s time?

My blog and brand is my full time job and has been for 2 years. I see continued growth in traffic and social channels. The consequence of this will be an increase in authority and commercial success. Blogging Your Way to Riches will progress as a project as well with Emma Bradley from Emmaand3 website. Our book has sold so well, so we see more products to come alongside our fabulous Facebook group.

What is your favourite thing about blogging?

It has to be the people who I collaborate with. My virtual colleagues are a life saver always there to help out, share ideas, calm me down.

…and your least favourite?

The admin, it’s never ending and tiresome.

What’s the best blog post you have ever read?

I love this post from Lotty Earns on her addiction to diet coke. Such an amazing writer whom I have learnt a lot from.

What blog do you love to read and why?

I love to read the best writers. People like Faith Archer at Much More With Less are amazing and write with such passion and enthusiasm.

I love the social media posts from Emma at Brummy Mummy of Two, she cracks me up with her honesty and humour.

Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?

I write a lot better. I am much better technically at things like SEO, affiliate marketing, negotiation and Instagram!

Is blogging what you expected it to be?

Its everything and more. I love that this is my job and look forward to working every day.

What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?

My favourite campaign collaboration has been with Pensionbee, for whom I am ambassador for. I appeared on their recent bill board campaign. They have featured on my blog and I have featured on theirs. Plus they now work with my recommended personal finance blogger colleagues. They are a fun brand to work with who offer a fabulous pension service. Something different that the public will benefit from understanding through my story and views.

Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?

I have a wish list of sports brands such as Nike and Adidas. My three boys are all very sporty and two of them play for Cambridge United Football Academy so I am keen to share their story with the sports brands. 3 brothers that play football for England is the goal (no pun intended)

Have you had any blogging fails so far?

The fact that I didn’t SEO anything properly for my first two years of blogging??!! So much work to go back and repair it.

What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?

I just want my family to be happy and for us all to be grateful for the life we lead. Be that from blogging or whatever paths we choose in life.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

I watch a lot of football, training or games 4-5 times per week. I practise yoga and pilates and I run. I love to cook great, healthy food from scratch.

and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself

I am an operatic trained singer. In my youth I sang solos in front of thousands, was in vocal group and the Penzance operatic society. Now I sing karaoke;-)

Now that you know all about Lynn from Mrs Moneypenny, make sure you go and read her blog. You can follow her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram – thanks so much Lynn for being involved!
