Here’s this week’s instalment of Blogger Behind the Blog where I interview a blogger all about their reasons for blogging and what it means to them. This week I’m joined by Pamela from Life With Munchers.
Here’s Pamela with her answers:
Where did your blog name come from?
I wanted to pick a name I wouldn’t grow out of. Life With Munchers, although currently is a family lifestyle blog, I know I can develop it in time to be more homes related when the kids hit the age where they don’t want to be involved anymore.
When did you start your blog and why?
I started blogging in September 2013 and it was something I took on as a bit of a hobby really. It kept me busy, I found new friends online and sure enough brands starting knocking my email door and now it’s a large part of my job
What did you do before you blogged?
I’ve always worked in marketing since I graduated from university. I worked my way up to marketing manager working with rather exciting brands in the car industry and more recently the oil industry.
What was your first post?
I had to go and check! My first post was about parent and child parking… I think I was spurred to write it after an unpleasant experience!
What inspires you to blog?
I love to document our lives. I look back at my childhood photos (which is all they were able to capture when I was young) and it doesn’t tell the whole story. We are blessed that these days we can photograph, film and document our memories in a more real way and Im going to look forward to casting an eye back at my blog when I’m old and grey.
What post has had the best response, which post are you most proud of and which post did you enjoy writing the most?
Sometimes the posts which have the best response in terms of hits are the most odd. I wrote a post about the difference between gloss and satin paint once and to this day, I still get 50 hits a day to that post. The post I am the most proud of and enjoyed writing the most, would have to be my birth posts (am I allowed 2?!) I never put Munch’s birth story on the blog because doctors were always telling me ‘what an awful experience’ it must have been and I felt that no one would want to read anything that wasn’t all rosy and polished. However after the birth of our second I became proud of our experience and what it brought us and I wanted to share it regardless. It’s what made us a family and I enjoyed writing that journey.
Have any of your posts not had the response that you expected?
Erm…. all the time! I guess you can’t have expectations when it comes to blogging. It doesn’t matter how much time, effort or care went into each post or whether you were careful so as not to cause offence…. you can’t predict an outcome.
Where do you see your blog in a years time?
In a years time I hope to have grown my blog, now that it is a main job for me, and also see other ventures develop and grow.
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
That I enjoy it! I get to do something I love everyday and have the flexibility to spend time with my family.
…and your least favourite?
The social media side can always be a bit toxic, but if you are putting yourself out there, you have to be prepared that not everyone will like it.
What’s the best blog post you have ever read?
I read so many, it’s hard to pick just one! I’m going to have to pick one that I read recently and alarm bells just rang in my head, as it was so on point for me.
What blog do you love to read and why?
Again…. so many! Ah Donna, forcing me to choose! I’m doing a virtual tombola over here and picking Jess at Mummy of Boy Girl Twins… purely because she covers so many of the topics I enjoy reading about.
Do you do anything differently now to when you started blogging?
Blogging is ever changing! It’s tough to keep up with the technology and social platforms. So that has spurred me into vlogging and videoing what we do… something I never thought I’d do at the start.
Is blogging what you expected it to be?
All and more! When I got into it, I had no idea of the world and industry that was below the surface. It’s rather a giant place to be.
What’s been your favourite blog collaboration to date?
I have to say I loved going back to my roots and working with BMW. Who wouldn’t love that…right?! But for me, it really took me back and brought back some fond memories.
Are there any brands you would love to work with, why?
My passion lies with home interiors, so I’d love to work with more home companies. I’ve had the Pleasure of working with Laura Ashley, so more in that area would be great.
Have you had any blogging fails so far?
Blogging fails… erm… haven’t we all. Scheduled posts early, all the usual ones!
What is your biggest blogging hope, dream or ambition?
Well it is already delivering, as it’s provided me with so many opportunities blog wise and non blog wise.
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
When I’m not blogging, I’m juggling family life and work life. I set up a digital marketing company and that has allowed me to continue doing what I love on and off the blog.
and lastly, tell us all a random fact about yourself.
Random fact…eek…When I was young, I was a gala day queen.
