This week’s Beginning of Us blog post comes from Shay over at Two Tiny Terrors who tells us about meeting her Husband and their journey to get to be man and wife. You can also find Shay over on Twitter @Shay_Noble.
My Husband and I met at school. We started off as acquaintances, a friend of a friend, and occasionally ‘hung out’ together but with me being the year above in my 1st year of A-Levels, and him the year below in his last year of GCSE’s we didn’t see as much of each other as we’d have liked to. We had a laugh though and got on well when we talked. At the end of the year he went off to College and I started my final year of A-Levels and I think we both thought that was that, neither of us had a phone number for each other or added onto Bebo or MySpace or whatever awful social networking sites we used back then.
That was when something else stepped in; you could call it fate or coincidence, but it felt like something made sure we found our way back to each other. A mutual friend of ours started up a band and my Husband was the drummer, but only for a couple of weeks… Within those weeks my friend badgered me constantly to check out his band page and eventually I hopped over to listen to a couple of the tracks that had been put up and to have a look around. That was when I saw his name. A blast from the past. Someone I thought I would never see again.
Around 9 months after we’d parted ways we found our way back together via MSN Messenger where we started chatting, getting to know each other a bit better and maybe even indulging in a bit of flirting. We arranged to meet up one evening and made our way to the local park. Our hands slipped into each others and it felt right, normal and as if it had always been that way. Conversation flowed easily and although I was nervous everything just felt ‘right.’ We walked around for a while, hugged, held hands, talked, laughed and eventually kissed under the big tree near the middle of the park.
It was April 25th 2006 when we ‘officially’ started dating, I was 18 and he was 17 and neither us had any idea what we would mean to each other in the years to come. We brought our children into the world in 2009 and 2010 and finally (after a 6 year engagement!!) became Mr and Mrs in 2013. It’s now been just over 8 years and we still walk past that tree in the park, just as happy and still holding hands but with our two little terrors running laps around us and a few more years on the clock.
Thanks Shay for sharing such a lovely story – It’s so nice that you still live in the same area and get to see that tree so often!
If you would like to read the other posts in the series you can see them all here and remember to come back next week for another lovely story!
