This week’s Beginning of Us post comes from Rachel over at The Melton House. I haven’t been reading her blog for very long but now that I’ve found it I’ll be reading for a long time to come – You can also find Rachel over on Twitter, @MummyMelton. Here’s Rachel…
Rob and I met online, which seems to be a popular way to meet your other half now but I was a little embarrassed. We had our first date at a lovely restaurant and then went to a local bar. There was a pub quiz taking place and whilst we didn’t take part there was a team behind us. Every time we knew an answer we’d share it with them, they ended up winning and buying us drinks. We had a fantastic night.
We met again a few days later as Rob was going to France on an expedition with the RAF (who he worked for as a civvy). Whilst he was in France we text and spoke lots. I started to panic. We met in September 2008 and in the previous January I came out of a 7 year relationship – I could feel I was really falling for him, was it too soon?? So I told him I couldn’t see him anymore.
My brother talked some sense into me and told me if he made me happy why was I stopping myself from being with him.
We went to Madrid the following February for Rob’s birthday, it was an amazing trip. I had been applying for jobs in England as I wanted to get away from Scotland. I got an interview for a job I really wanted, Rob surprised me by saying he’d move with me. This was a huge step! I asked him to move in with me as I thought there was no point moving far away from our friends and family if we couldn’t live together.
We moved to Lancashire in August 2009. In May 2010 we got engaged.
I felt so bad as unknown to me Rob had been planning all these romantic gestures and ways to proposed but I had been poo-pooing his ideas. He ended up proposing to me on the sofa at home.
In September 2011 we got married. We wanted to get married as close to when we met and we celebrated the day we met whilst on honeymoon in Egypt.
In December 2013 we welcomed our little bundle of joy, our gorgeous little boy.
Thanks so much Rachel for sharing your story! I met my Hubby online too and have never looked back. It sounds like your relationship was meant to be.
If you would like to read the other posts in the series you can see them all here and remember to come back next week for another lovely story!
