It’s that time of year where we get into the garden as much as possible and eat so many meals out there too – snacky lunches and barbecue dinners. We love inviting friends over as much as possible and find that eating outside is just such a sociable thing.
Over the summer some of our best memories are made in the garden, with nibbles, that heavenly barbecue smell and the children laughing and playing together. Each year we buy a few new toys for the garden, invest in some new garden furniture and get some new garden friendly crockery too – this year from Homesense. We’ve bought new bowls, snack trays, cutlery and a drinks dispenser – all for al fresco dining this summer.
Eating outside is just so easy. You can literally grab everything out of the fridge and have a mini buffet, making sure there are plenty of crisps and dips to graze on. We usually have a big salad, lots of bread rolls and make it a big help yourself affair, everyone just tucking in.
Dessert is a must too but in the warmer months you can’t go wrong with a fruit salad. Berries and grapes are always such a winner with the whole family – and the sort of thing that keeps well in the fridge afterwards.
The children would eat fruit day in and day out and so for us, a fruit salad is a staple of any summer day in the garden. But another must for any day in the garden is having drinks accessible for the children – This year we’ve created a drink station where the children can help themselves. It’s such a novelty but really helps to keep the children hydrated.
I am looking forward to the next months being full of time in the garden, al fresco dining and a more relaxed pace of life. The summer makes me happy – and that barbecue smell is one of my favourites!
