A Half Term at Home {The Ordinary Moments}

Welcome back to another week of the Ordinary Moments. If you haven’t joined in before this is a weekly linky that launches every Sunday morning and is open until midnight on the following Saturday. It’s a linky that celebrates any ordinary moments in your life – or the not so ordinary some weeks too. Basically – anything goes. I’ll be sharing and commenting on the posts that are linked up during the week and there’s a badge at the bottom of the post if you’d like to add it to yours too.

A Half Term at Home {The Ordinary Moments}

Since I became a full time blogger I have found that our weekends and school holidays get booked up so far in advance. Because of this, we always seem to be away somewhere – with a trip to Cornwall in February half term and then Wales and Devon at Easter. Our life is constantly busy and although we wouldn’t have it any other way, sometimes we have to pencil in a good amount of downtime. So that’s exactly what we did this week for half term.

We planned to stay at home for the week, have a slower pace and go out just a little bit. We all needed some time out, a chance to lay in and rest and that was our main focus of half term.

So the children had a couple of sleepovers at their grandparents house. I had a weekend in London with a friend, we went pottery painting and Dave and I went to a concert mid-week too. Aside from that, we had Dave’s parents over for dinner, we had friends over to play and I took the children to Legoland for a day too.

Usually we would have something booked in every day. We would wake up with our alarms and we would be busy, busy, busy. But instead we woke up naturally, we could spend mornings in our pyjamas, we could watch TV and we could spend time pottering around the house. It was lovely.

We had a day at the seaside yesterday which was just simple fun. We played on the beach, had lunch and played in the arcades – but it was the furthest we’d been all week and so a real treat.

But, overall, this half term has taught me to slow down, to take a step back and just enjoy the ordinary bits of life – the time at home, the mundane and the simple things. I forgot how much I love waking up without an alarm. I forgot how nice it is to lay in bed with the children in the morning without having to be somewhere. And I forgot how nice it is to just enjoy each other’s company without needing to do big things every day.

Half term was simple and it was perfect. The children had a great time and we all feel much better for a lovely week at home. I’m looking forward to pencilling in more weeks at home in the holidays going forward.

  1. I completely agree! We had 4 days of doing nothing in half term, we woke up and lazed around. It was really lovely and we definitely need these days where we are not rushing out the door. Sounds like you all had a fun time x
