Review: Zac and Lily Lebkuchen Reindeer Kit

I wrote a few days ago about Zac and Lily’s Christmas Eve Kit which I think all families will love this Christmas. As well as that kit Zac and Lily kindly sent us their Lebkuchen Reindeer Kit to review. As we love baking I thought this would be a great activity to do with the children – especially as we get nearer to Christmas.

Lebkuchen is a traditional German festive treat, similar to gently spiced gingerbread. It’s made with honey to bind it instead of eggs used in typical biscuits and this gives it a really lovely texture and taste.

The Lebkuchen Reindeer Kit includes nearly everything you need to make the biscuits – biscuit mix, honey, reindeer noses and an icing pen – the only thing you have to add is butter.

Making the biscuits couldn’t be simpler, you just melt butter and mix it along with the biscuit mix and honey in a bowl, make balls of the dough and flatten them before baking. The children loved helping with this part and love that they can mix these biscuits themselves.

After the biscuits are baked, and have been left to cool, you can decorate them with reindeer noses, eyes and antlers to create the perfect Lebkuchen Reindeer. I’m really not the best at being creative – and I did bake the biscuits at slightly too high a temperature – and didn’t flatten them quite enough BUT I think they turned out pretty well!

Like many of Zac and Lily’s products the Lebkuchen Reindeer Kit can be personalised with any message, making this a wonderful gift for a teacher or any friends or family. It would be a lovely stocking filler or just great as something to do with the children in the lead up to Christmas.

The Lebkuchen Reindeer Kit has an RRP of £7.50

Disclosure: We were sent the above product for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.

  1. I love that site so much – there things are lovely! My favourites are either the reindeer kit or the christmas eve kitl I like the hot cross bun set too!

  2. What a hard decision – I think my favourite is a toss up between the flapjack mix or the double chocolate and oat cookies or maybe the Reindeer cookies (I’m hopeless, I can’t decide!)
