There is nothing I love more than an edible treat and I always like finding something new to try. Yvonne & Guite sent us a box of their canelés to try and they looked like nothing I’ve experienced before. I couldn’t wait to see what they were like.
Canelés are a French treat that has been around for over 300 years. They have a unique and delectable texture with a soft and tender interior and a thin caramelised crust which is traditionally flavoured with vanilla and a subtle touch of rum.
The canelés are available in standard or mini size and we were sent a mixed box to review. The canelés are simple to prepare by heating in the oven and then leaving to cool slightly although they taste good unheated too. The canelés tasted to me like a cake version of a creme brulee with a lovely vanilla flavour and similar taste to that of custard although an altogether different consistency.
They taste so different to anything I have ever tasted before and yet the flavours are so familiar. The canelés were a lovely treat and something I would definitely buy again for an occasion – a tea party or having friends and family round for a little celebration.
The Yvonne & Guite canelés are made of milk, eggs, sugar, flour, butter, vanilla and rum. They are perfectly simple with no toppings – just a traditional canelé. They are something I may have never had in the past but they are something that I know I will now not forget.
You can order canelés direct by contacting Yvonne & Guite on their website or through Bonativo where they are sold as a pack of mini canelés or standard canelés. If you wanted a mixed box or different quantities Yvonne & Guite would be more than happy to create a bespoke order.
Yvonne & Guite have been nice enough to offer readers £5 off their products on Bonativo by using the voucher code YVONNE5 at checkout. Happy shopping!
