Sports Day {The Ordinary Moments}

This week was LP’s first proper sports day. It was a day where she got to dress in her PE kit and spend it with all of her school friends, on the school field, playing games and having fun whilst all the parents sat in the sun, watching their children’s happy little faces.

I lay on the grass with Little Man, eating a picnic and watching LP play in the different games. She played a bean bag throwing game, a hockey game, one involving a space hopper and had an egg and spoon race. I loved how excite she was, how keen to have a go and how good she was at everything she set her mind to.

I had hated sports day as a child, shying away from being the centre of attention and not liking PE or sports at all. Because of this I have been as positive about sports, exercise and PE as I can be towards LP and watching her, so happy and involved, during sports day was incredible for me.

I couldn’t have been more proud of LP. Lined up with her class she was still so petite, easily the smallest. Yet, she was saying hello to everyone, waving at children in the older classes and chatting happily to the teachers. For someone so small she is a ball of energy, pure confidence and just so lovely. She makes me so proud and times like this hit home just how proud of her I am.

My Little LP will, no doubt, always be little, but she is so big in personality and for that I am just so proud of her. She makes friends easily and where other children may just have one best friend LP thinks everyone is her best friend. She has a beautiful nature and really sets her mind to everything she tries – including the egg and spoon race where you can see the sheer determination on her face.

This sports day may be her first one but it also marks the upcoming end of her first year at school. The first school year has been a blur but LP has grown so much, learnt so much and I couldn’t be more proud.

  1. She looks so grown up and very, very determined! We’ve recently been to Harrison’s reception sports day and it was amazing to see how grown up he looked. Time goes so quickly doesn’t it?!

  2. This is a lovely post Donna and you have every right to be proud of her. It’s funny as I still remember that first photo you posted of her and she looked so little for school on her first day. But in these photos you can see how much she has grown this year. I am glad she and you enjoyed her first sports day. Ours has been postponed twice now due to the rain and has finally been rescheduled for this wednesday- it’s forecast rain again typically but fingers crossed they do it this time! x

  3. Aww that’s so lovely! I worry a bit about things like sports day because Libby still can’t catch a ball or anything like that, but I also look forward to seeing her because I know she’ll enjoy it.

  4. Sounds like it was a really proud to be a mum time, and I think sports day is like that for so many people. Glad LP puts her heart and soul into everything she does and hope that confidence and eagerness continues.

    N’s sports day was fun, although slightly wet in bits, and I was really proud of him joining in with everything even though he’s usually the least competitive. (do come and link up with #schooldays)

  5. This is such a lovely post and how cute does she look in her PE kit?! Sports days and school plays etc always get me a bit emotional. This next school year will hit me hard emotionally since Harley will be in his last year of primary school eek!
