Review: Splash About Children’s Wetsuits

I have spoken many times about LP’s swimming lessons and how well she is doing with them. The only thing that upsets her now is the cold as she tends to feel the cold a lot when waiting for her lesson to start so when Splash About asked if the children would like to review a wetsuit each I thought it would be great for making LP happier during her swimming lessons.

LP was sent the Splash About Combie to review which is a sleeveless wetsuit that comes down the knees. The Combie is made from super soft neoprene and is designed to keep the core body temperature stable. The Splash About Combie has velcro straps on the shoulders to secure it in place and was easy to get on and off LP. Although it is slightly on the big side at the moment we did request the 2-4 years size and as LP is a small three year old I think the sizing is pretty good and I expected it to have room to grow.

LP no longer complains of the cold and finds the Combie wetsuit great for swimming lessons as it allows her arms to move really well. The only slight issue is that the wetsuit does have quite a lot of buoyancy and as LP is quite small anyway it does tend to make her float which isn’t the best when trying to learn to swim unaided. For now she’ll be wearing a normal swimming costume for swimming lessons and we’ll keep the wetsuit for when she’s able to swim better by herself, days at the beach and any times we go ‘special swimming’ at the local water park.

Little Man was sent the Splash About Warm in One to review and the first time he used it he was comfortable immediately. He always cries when we go into changing rooms or even just a baby change but the minute we put the wetsuit on him he calmed down. The Warm in One is fleece lined which makes it really snug, warm and was a great fit – Little Man was sent the 18-24 month option and it was a really good size on him with still a bit of room to grow. The material is perfect for sensitive skin and gives UPF 50+ sun protection – something I always look for in swimwear.

The Splash About Warm in One made Little Man easy to hold in the pool and he could move about easily. When taking the wetsuits off the children they were easy to remove but did hold a lot of water – make sure you ring them out well after swimming!

Both children were really happy and comfortable in their wetsuits and it made swimming that much easier – happy children definitely enjoy swimming more and being warmer definitely made them happier. The Splash About wetsuits are well made and a great investment. I know we’ll be using ours constantly when we go swimming, in the garden over the summer and when we go abroad later in the year.

Disclosure: We were sent the above products for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
