I love getting new cookbooks and don’t treat myself to them often – Unless it’s a slow cooking cookbook (I have a bit of a slow cooking addiction!). I was recently asked if I’d like to review the Traidcraft Bake a Difference cookbook along with some of the Traidcraft sugars and chocolate.
Traidcraft is the UK’s leading fair trade organisation. Their mission is to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help poor people in developing countries transform their lives. Traidcraft is also a leading supplier of fair trade and organic food – supplying the UK with the highest quality Fair Trade grocery products.
Considering that Traidcraft sells Fair Trade and organic food I was impressed with the variety available. I ordered a packet of golden caster sugar, demerara sugar, milk chocolate and dark chocolate as well as the Bake a Difference cookbook and it all arrived well packaged and delivered by courier. Standard delivery is £4.99 per order.
The Bake a Difference cookbook is the ideal kitchen companion for anyone wanting to use more fair trade produce in cooking. The cookbook is full colour and has 164 pages containing over 80 recipes and using ingredients from across the world. Each recipe is beautifully illustrated and there are pages throughout the book dedicated to telling the reader more about where products come from and the lifestyles of the people behind the cocoa, sugar, bananas etc. The Bake a Difference cookbook is so much more than just another cookbook, it gives a real insight into the conditions in other parts of the world that Traidcraft are trying to improve.
We used the chocolate to make Chocolate & Orange Cookies adapted slightly from one of the recipes in the book. All of the recipes are easy to follow and use standard store cupboard ingredients – Most of which are available with a fair trade version. The variety of recipes is great too – sweet, savoury and even Toffee Grapes – a cheeseboard addition that we’ll definitely be doing in the future!
Now that I have the Bake a Difference cookbook I will definitely be baking from it regularly. I already have a few recipes bookmarked and ingredients added to my shopping list!
Bake a Difference has an RRP of £12.99
Disclosure: We were sent the above items for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
