Something you may or may not know about me is that I absolutely love Cornwall, we would holiday there every year if we could! It’s one of the most beautiful places in the UK. One thing I wasn’t aware of was that there is a Made in Cornwall scheme, vetter and operated by the Cornish Council, that showcases the very best in authentic Cornish products – everything from hand crafted items to food and drink. One member of the Made in Cornwall scheme, Stevens – The Cornish Slate Company, recently offered us the chance to test out and review a couple of products from their range of beautiful, made to order Cornish slate products.
We now have a slate picture frame in our lounge and I for one didn’t even know you could make slate into something like a picture frame! Looking at Stevens website it’s amazing what can actually be created with slate! The photo frame truly is beautiful, rustic and natural but homely at the same time. Any picture would look fantastic surrounded by slate. This picture frame would make a perfect gift and would sit nicely in any home. It can also stand freely on a side or be hung on a wall. Such a lovely product with such a natural but beautiful finish.
I’ve never owned a cake stand although I’ve always wanted one. Imagining afternoons with friends, a pot of tea and small but perfect cakes placed carefully on the cake stand, being able to pick the whole stand up and move it around your home easily. This cake stand is a true work of art. The finish is smooth and yet every natural mark on the slate can still be seen, the true beauty of each piece of stone, the colours and the individuality of each piece are truly stunning. This slate is like nothing I have seen before – I’ve seen a lot of slate placemats and coasters in department stores that are obviously mass produced and they are in no way comparable to Stevens slate. This cake stand is the new centre piece in our kitchen and the focal point of any social gathering. It’s also a talking point as everyone wants to know where we got it from!
Stevens is a two person business – Pat and Anne – who are lovely! It’s always nice to deal with businesses that really value their customers and go that extra mile. A big part of their slate business is making bespoke items to order – If there’s something you would like, in slate, I’m sure they could make it happen for you! Their slate tableware business is a recent venture but they still have their previous slate door sign business.
Stevens use Delabole slate which is considered to be the most hardwearing. This makes Stevens products versatile and durable as well as being lovely to look at. Stevens have a great range of slate products online in their Shop and have given my blog readers a discount of 20% if you use the code DW20 before 13th December (Their last Christmas order date). If you know someone who is hard to buy for or that person who has everything then I am sure they’d appreciate an actual slice of Cornwall for Christmas – or any other occasion.
Disclosure: We were sent the above items for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
