LP was lucky enough to be sent a gorgeous dress from Emma at Ooo Lo La and I couldn’t wait for the sun to come out for her to try it on! In the end LP wore it for the first time on a very special trip to the seaside and it was the perfect outfit.
LP’s Peasant Dress is beautifully made and fitted her really well with room to grow. The neck is elasticated so that it can be put on and taken off easily and the little sleeves were perfect on LP, not too long to be annoying for her but giving more cover from the sun than a sleeveless dress.
The great thing about Ooo Lo La is the ordering process. The dresses can be made from literally any material – You purchase the material, get it sent directly to Emma and she makes the dress for you in your chosen size for a flat cost of £20 including return postage. This means that you have a beautiful handmade dress in the material that you choose – Your perfect dress!
I love to try and write about new and upcoming businesses as often as possible, especially if I love the concept behind them and I love Ooo Lo La – I don’t have the time or inclination to learn to sew but I love handmade clothes and getting things that are just that bit different to the High Street. Emma’s service is perfect for people like me who love handmade clothes but can’t make them ourselves.
Ooo Lo La dresses have made it as far as Australia and Emma has more designs, bigger sizes & boys clothes planned for the future. The Peasant is currently available from Age 1- Age 8 and LP is wearing the dress in age 2 which is perfect considering she is a very petite nearly three year old.
Emma buys most of her own fabric from Patchwork Elephant and has even secured discount for readers! Emma tells me that depending on the fabric you choose it can range in price from £5 a metre to £12 a metre for designer fabrics so it’s up to you how much you want to spend on a dress. As a guideline, dresses up to Age 5 need 1 metre of fabric. I have been really impressed with not only the dress from Ooo Lo La but also the service – The dress arrived so quickly and was beautifully wrapped, a shame to open it!
LP completely covered the dress in a huge multicoloured melted ice lolly when we were at the seaside. I cringed thinking of the state the dress would be in, whether it would survive a wash in the washing machine and whether that would be the end of LP’s beautiful dress. But I am pleased to say that every spot of ice lolly came out of the dress and not one stitch came undone in the wash – I’m not easily impressed but for something handmade I don’t think I could have received better.
Disclosure: We were sent the above dress for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
