Last month we were given the opportunity to review the Olly the Little White Van TV Series. LP really enjoyed the characters from the show and when I was offered the chance to review a selection of Olly the Little White Van books I knew that LP would recognise the characters and should hopefully enjoy them.
We were sent 4 great quality ‘board books’, 2 sticker/activity books and 2 paperback picture books. The first thing I noticed was the variety of the books, something for every age and ability. The board books aren’t like any other board books we have at home – Instead of cardboard pages they are still thick but almost plastic coated. They feel really durable and a really good quality – Something I always look for as Little Man has a tendency to suck and eat board books! He loves them but they just disintegrate, something that won’t happen with these lovely new Olly the Little White Van books!
When we started to read the books I soon realised that the selection we were sent would last us a very long time! The board books held Little Man’s interest as they were nice and thick and he could hold them himself but LP also loved the bright colours of them – “Read yellow one Mummy, read blue one Mummy”. The stories were just long enough for a quick short story and so for LP we would read all four in a row.
The paperback picture books were too long for Little Man but something that he would grow to read. These were the perfect length for a bedtime story for LP and she loves them, pointing our the different colour vehicles and the familiar characters in the books.
The sticker/activity books are a bit too grown up for LP at the moment, having a lot of word type games and drawing games in them but the variety of activities in the books is fantastic and the inclusion of stickers is a lovely bonus!
Overall we loved the Olly the Little White Van books selection we were sent and I can see the whole set being used over the next few years with the children. It’s great that there is a book tailored to every Olly the Little White Van fan – no matter how old they are! It’s also lovely that the board books contain an actual story so that they can be read and enjoyed long after the end of the board books stage.
Disclosure: We were sent the above books for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
