Review: Milly&Flynn Shaped Pirate Puzzle

One of my new favourite brands is Milly&Flynn who have created a lovely collection of books and games. They sent us a Shaped Pirate Puzzle to review and as LP is obsessed with pirates at the moment I knew it would go down well.

The Milly&Flynn puzzle range is beautiful, with so many ideas that I haven’t seen before. The shaped puzzle range is completely different to the norm as there isn’t the standard square edge that everyone looks for when starting a jigsaw puzzle, instead the puzzle is shaped with some edges straight and some curved to create a really natural picture when finished.

Unlike usual jigsaws, the Milly&Flynn Shaped Pirate Puzzle takes more effort to put together as children need to think differently to make the jigsaw. Usually LP starts to make a jigsaw by separating the edge pieces from the rest but this time she seemed confused – there were no typical edge pieces in the box! This was great as it means that in time LP will understand this new style of puzzle and will learn how to put the edges together herself. This gives the Milly&Flynn shaped puzzles a lot more longevity than a typical jigsaw.

LP’s favourite part of the jigsaw was the picture that appeared at the end. The pirate ship had so many things to look at and was a fun, cartoon-like illustration the LP really loved. The sea in the jigsaw also has shiny bits to it that gave an element of movement and depth to the picture whihc I haven’t seen on a jigsaw before.

I found the Milly&Flynn Shaped Pirate Puzzle to be really well made and loved the addition of a paper bag to keep the pieces together inside the box. The back of the jigsaw also has a pretty cloud pattern – normally the back of a jigsaw is forgotten so this was a really nice touch. The box is also really sturdy which makes a nice change to the flimsy jigsaw boxes we have had in the past.

LP loves her new puzzle and I will be adding more onto LP’s Christmas list as I really like them too. The Milly&Flynn Shaped Puzzles have an RRP of £7.99 which I think is really great value for a well made jigsaw.
