Last year we were lucky enough to review two books from Meadow Kids and LP was was excited when another Meadow Kids parcel arrived for her.
The Meadow Kids Mix or Match Fancy Dress Activity Book is unlike any other book I’ve seen before. It has lovely thick cardboard pages and each one contains a three piece jigsaw – A different outfit on each page. The idea is that you can take the pieces out and either put the pieces back where they came from to create the original outfits or you can mix all the outfits up to make completely different characters and an odd assortment of clothes!
LP loved this book straight away, opening it on the floor and pulling the pieces out! Considering she has never had a book like this before she knew exactly what to do. LP loved the bright colours of the pictures on each page and I liked that there were stereotypical ‘girly’ outfits like a Princess and Mermaid but there were also a Police Officer , a Nurse, a Cowgirl and even a Native American! The variety of outfits and pictures was fantastic!
I was really surprised how quickly LP picked up the idea of the jigsaws in the book as she would take all three pieces out and then put them back in again – She likes to tidy up quite often and the thought of leaving the pieces out, turning the page, taking more pieces out and mixing the outfits up didn’t appeal to LP – She wanted to tidy away the three jigsaw pieces by putting them back before she got the next set of pieces out of the book. I think mixing up the outfits will be something that LP will enjoy doing when she’s slightly older and this shows that the book will have real longevity.
Overall we really enjoyed this book – more the play aspect than the reading side of it and I can see LP continuing to enjoy the jigsaws and in time she’ll realise there is also a story there and will be able to enjoy the mixing up element of the book.
Disclosure: We were sent the above book for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
