We have spent a lot of time trying to teach LP about Christmas, the festive season and what a special time of year it is. We’ve been watching Christmas movies and reading Christmas books and recently Egmont sent us Little Robin’s Christmas to review which fitted in well with our current reading theme!
Little Robin’s Christmas is a beautiful book with lovely illustrations on every page. It tells the story of Robin and how he helps his friends on the lead up to Christmas and how in turn he gets rewarded for his good deeds.
The book has great themes of friendship and Christmas spirit whilst helping children to learn numbers, counting, colours, animals and all about the festive season. Father Christmas is featured and it’s nice that this story focuses on Little Robin’s Christmas rather than focusing on Father Christmas – It was a refreshing change from the norm.
LP loved reading this book. It has turned into a firm afternoon favourite and is often read before bed too! It has reinforced the numbers that LP already knew and has taught her a few new colours and animals that she wasn’t familiar with before. I can see Little Robin’s Christmas being read throughout November and December each year and before we know it LP will be reading it to us, rather than us reading it to her.
Little Robin’s Christmas is a really lovely book and it would make a great addition to any child’s collection – It would be a really lovely Christmas gift too.
