Kitchen Craft recently got in contact to see whether LP would like to review some of their great range of children’s items. LP and I don’t cook or bake together very often, it’s something we’re gradually introducing LP to and so I thought that this review would prompt us to do some baking.
Kitchen Craft have got such a huge range of kitchen products from specialist items to gifts and utensils. Whatever you’re looking for you’ll definitely find it at Kitchen Craft! LP was very excited to receive a Miniamo melamine plate and cutlery set as well as a Let’s Make 10 piece bakeware set.
LP doesn’t have any tableware with pictures on, using just plain plastic plates or ‘grown up’ side plates so she loved her new fairy plate. The melamine plate is shatterproof, dishwasher safe and virtually indestructible – Great if your child is prone to throwing plates on the floor!
I loved the cutlery set. Unlike most children’s cutlery the Miniamo set included 4 pieces – two different sized spoons. All the cutlery sets we’ve had in the past have only ever had one spoon, that and the style of the cutlery make it look very much like an adult set of cutlery in miniature and that is really appealing to me – and LP! LP loves to copy us and the fact that she can now stir a drink with her teaspoon or savour a dessert with a little spoon rather than a big one is a huge novelty for her. The cutlery is also dishwasher safe unlike a lot of children’s cutlery sets.
The children’s baking set was fantastic, something that we haven’t used before. LP loves to copy us in the kitchen and usually uses her toy kitchen items but having her own ‘real’ kitchen things was so new to her that she loved it!
The Let’s Make children’s baking set comes with a a spatula, spoon, whisk, 6 cutters and a teddy bear jelly/cake mould. Everything is dishwasher safe – You can tell this is important to us! – and really well made. LP loved the bright colours and before we even started baking LP was talking to me about the different colours and the shapes of the cutters, so many different levels of learning as well as the physical baking.
LP and I made cookies. From the start LP found the utensils easy to handle and they were just the right size for her. She had great fun stirring in her own bowl and doing everything that Mummy was doing. When it was time to cut the cookies out LP chose her two favourite shapes and I cut them out for her and lay them on a baking sheet.
The Let’s Make set really involved LP in the kitchen and helped her to understand the cooking/baking process rather than just watching me bake. LP now knows what ingredients we needed and which utensils were for which jobs – It’s actually amazing how much children understand and take in. Unfortunately, we used the mould for jelly and realised there must be a knack to getting jelly out of a silicone mould – Huge fail on my part. Luckily LP wasn’t expecting teddy shaped jelly – I’ll be practicing that again in the future!
