Disclosure: We were invited on this break for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.

Last week we drove to Scotland for a holiday. None of us had really been to Scotland before and so when searching for self catering accommodation we wanted somewhere that would be a good base for exploring some of the country as well as not being a million miles from our friends in Stirling, Fife and Aberdeen. We found Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort and it looked perfect for what we needed.

What should we expect from a family break at Forbes of Kingennie?

Forbes of Kingennie is situated just outside of Dundee with good access to Glasgow, Edinburgh and pretty much the rest of Scotland. It’s based around a beautiful lake which is great for fishing and also has a golf course. The accommodation on offer is a selection of beautiful lodges, at various places around the resort and all well equipped for a lovely self catering break away.

What are the Forbes of Kingennie lodges like?

Our lodge, Glen Prosen, was the closest lodge to the main reception and it was ideally situated for both walking around the lake and making use of the bar and restaurant. It also had it’s own parking space directly outside the front door which made a welcome change from other holiday parks where you have to park quite far from your accommodation.

The lodge was upside down – with bedrooms on the ground floor and the main living area upstairs to make the most of the fantastic views. It had three bedrooms – a really lovely double with walk in wardrobe and en suite bathroom, a good size twin and a smaller single room with a second bed in it – perfect for children. There was also another bathroom and plenty of storage space.

The lodge had everything we could need in it with a well thought out kitchen with everything we needed for our stay – including a washing machine and airer. There was a dishwasher too which always makes a self catering stay so much more relaxing when you don’t have washing up to worry about.

Glen Prosen had heating throughout and the added benefit of Wi-fi although free wi-fi is also available in the main reception building, bar and restaurant. After a walk around the resort one afternoon we went to the bar for hot drinks to warm us up and found it so welcoming. There were fires lit, comfy seats and great views over the lake. It would be a wonderful place to go for a meal too.

What was our experience of Forbes of Kingennie?

Forbes of Kingennie is the perfect place to stay for couple, friends or families. The lodge was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The resort was great for relaxing and there was even an adventure playground to keep the children amused. Whatever type of break you are after – a few days of relaxation or a base to explore Scotland Forbes of Kingennie is bound to tick all the boxes.

I always try and find criticism with anything I review but I can’t fault the Forbes of Kingennie resort or our accommodation. We have stayed in quite a few self catering holiday options across the UK and I have to say that Forbes of Kingennie really deserves it’s 4 star rating. We would love to come back again.

  1. Ooh it looks so beautiful there! The lodges look really similar to Bluestone – what a good idea though to have the living areas at the top so you could make the most of those beautiful views! x x

  2. This sounds fabulous Donna, thanks for the recommendation. We are also heading to Scotland later in the year and will definitely consider booking this resort. The lodges look similar to the ones at Bluestone which were also upside down and we were really impressed with them.
