Redhead Roundup – Food and Drink {October}

Redhead_roundup

Here are a few of the food and drink products we’ve been enjoying this month:

Nutribix

All four of us eat a lot of supermarket own brand whole wheat biscuits so when I had the opportunity to try out Nutribix I was keen to see how they’d differ from our familiar favourites. We were sent the Gluten Free Nutribix to try and according to Nutribix it’s a light, crunchy, flaky, wheaty cereal – just without the wheat.

Nutribix would be great for anyone gluten free that still wants to eat a wheat biscuit alternative. The texture is pretty much the same to the traditional Nutribix alternatives and it’s just really the taste that is slightly different. Nutribix can be added to smoothies too or they can be enjoyed just with milk – or with fruit added too!

Naturelly

The children love anything that comes in a pouch and they really love jelly so when Naturelly sent us some of their Naturelly Jelly Juice drinks to try. The Naturelly Jelly Juice is made from natural fruit juice and gelatine free jelly. It also contains no added sugar or sweeteners, no artificial colours and no artificial preservatives. It’s also only 36 kcal and has 7g of naturally occurring fruit sugar.

The children loved these pouches although the first sip was interesting for them as it’s something they haven’t experienced before. The choice of flavours was fantastic with Apple & Blackcurrant, Tropical Fruits and Summer Fruits. As a snack on the go these are great and work well as both a snack and a drink combined – great for rehydrating and filling tummies all at once!

Cadburys Dairy Milk Marvellous Smashables

Cadburys Dairy Milk have released a brand new style of chocolate bar, one that you can literally smash to share with friends. The new Marvellous Smashables bars come in two great flavours – Rocky Mallow Road and Jelly Popping Candy. I am a huge Rocky Road fan so couldn’t wait to try the new Rocky Mallow Road – I wasn’t disapointed although the strawberry pieces took some getting used to.

Hubby loves the Jelly Popping Candy bar and we both thought that these would be perfect for a social gathering, an evening with friends round but I doubt the chocolate would last very long after being smashed!

Vetta High Fibre Spaghetti

We eat a lot of pasta and spaghetti in our house so when I heard about Vetta’s new high fibre range I knew I had to try it. I love finding healthier alternatives to the things we eat on an almost daily basis and this looked a great way of getting more fibre in our diets.

IMG_8382

Vetta’s High Fibre spaghetti tastes just like standard pasta but has 6.4 grams of fibre in each portion – which is 21% of your recommended daily intake. All four of us really enjoyed this pasta and it tasted lovely – definitely something that we could get used to eating.

Aldi The Exquisite Collection Gavi Wine

We are big fans of Aldi wines and are gradually working our way through them all. The The Exquisite Collection Gavi is produced from the Cortese grapes grown around the town of Gavi in the Piemonte wine region.

We found it refreshing and full of flavour with hints of tangy lemon and a subtle nuttiness. This Italian white wine went well with creamy pasta sauces and risotto and we really enjoyed it, especially straight from the fridge.

I Mune Nurture

The children love to drink anything in a pouch so when I Mune Nurture sent us their new drinks I thought it would be nice to give them a try. The drinks come in strawberry and cherry and orange and pineapple flavours and are 100% natural with no added sugar or sweeteners.

IMG_8455

I Mune Nurtue is made from still water enhanced with vitamins B3, B5, B9, B12, C, D, calcium, zinc and
Wellmune beta glucans which naturally supports immunity. I can’t really comment on whether the children have actually had boosted immunity but they have really enjoyed the drinks. From my perspective, the spill proof pouch is a great invention and I Mune Nurture are the perfect drinks for a day out.

Organix Apple and Orange Mini Oaty Bites

The children love Organix snacks and when we were sent their new Apple and Orange Mini Oaty Bites to try the children both loved them. The Mini Oaty Bites remind me of bitesize flapjacks and are the perfect size for a treat at any time of the day.

IMG_8427

The Mini Oaty Bites are just one of a range of toddler snacks in the Organix Ready, set, Goodies campaign – snacks that are perfect whenever toddlers need to snack. LP and Little Man both love the Mini Oaty Bites and we’ll definitely be buying them in future.

Hartley’s Glitter Jelly

Hartley’s sent LP some of their new Glitter Jelly to try and to say she was excited was an understatement – she loves jelly and she loves glitter so glittery jelly literally blew her mind! The jelly comes in powdered sachets and is made the same as any other jelly – dissolving the powder in boiler water and then leaving to set. It was quick and easy and LP loved that she’d helped to make it – by stirring at least!

IMG_8622

The jelly wasn’t as glittery as I’d imagined it was going to be but it had a lovely glittery sheen and sparkle. The jelly comes in either Strawberry or Raspberry flavours and would make any child excited. Both LP and Little Man loved eating the jelly once it was set.

Santa Maria Tacos

One of our favourite meals is fajitas but every so often we have tacos instead using pretty much the same ingredients to fill them. The children love that they get to have dinner inside really big crisps and we love the sociable aspect of tacos for dinner.

Santa Maria sent us their tacos, seasoning and salsa to use for a family meal and we loved it. The seasoning was simple to use and we filled the tacos with chicken, peppers and onions which were so easy to cook. We then served it with salad, cheese, salsa and sour cream – the perfect dinner!

Look What We Found Curries

IMG_8870

Look What We Found sent us some products from their curries range to try to celebrate National Curry Week. We were sent red Thai Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka and Chicken Korma all of which can be heated in the microwave in just two minutes but come out looking anything like a ready meal.

IMG_8947

The Look What We Found Curries are all really good quality curries that taste just like they’ve come from an indian takeaway. The sauces are thick and creamy and they are really full of flavour. The portion size is great although I would have liked less sauce as it made the curries look like there wasn’t much chicken when really it was just heavy on the sauce and swamped our plates.

IMG_8938

The meals from Look What We Found are nutritionally balanced and convenient, delivered direct to your door. The curries are just a small part of the great variety of meals that Look What We Found offer.

This month Smint have released a special edition Strawberry Mix pack which are working to raise money for Breast Cancer Care over the next 12 months. 5p from each packet sold goes to the charity. We’ve been enjoying the new fruity flavours and love that Smint are sugar free too!

Disclosure: We were sent the above items to include in this post however all opinions are my own.
