Redhead Roundup – Books {September}

Here are a few of the books we’ve been enjoying this month…

Spot a Lot Animals Jigsaw and Book

There are quite a few jigsaw and book sets around at the moment and the children love them – especially as one can make the jigsaw whilst the other is reading the book. Parragon sent us their Spot A Lot Animals Jigsaw and Book set and the children loved it immediately – for a start the book is crammed full of intricate illustrations with so much to look at.

The jigsaw in the set has a really lovely partying animals picture on one side and the other side is black and white for children to colour in – although we haven’t done this yet. The puzzle pieces are thick and well made making the jigsaw really versatile but easy to piece together.

This set would make a really lovely gift and adds so much more play value than having purely a jigsaw or book on their own.

Peppa Pig: Peppa’s Halloween Sticker and Activity Book

All children love a sticker book and Peppa’s Halloween Sticker and Activity Book has so many activities to complete as well as lovely stickers to stick! Each page has something on it for LP to do and she loved playing spot the difference and working her way through mazes all the time sticking stickers too!

If you’re looking for a gift for a child at Halloween this would be perfect. It has all of the familiar Peppa Pig characters, good quality stickers and more to do than a standard sticker book. LP loved this book and she really enjoyed the Halloween aspect of it – seeing Peppa dressed as a witch was a particular highlight!

Peppa Pig: Oink Oink

Oink Oink is such a fun book that tells about the adventures Peppa and George get up to with each double page ending with the Oink Oink noises. The noise button is easy to press and gives realistic pig noises, something Little Man especially loved.

Oink Oink has really nice thick pages which are easy for little hands to turn but also make the book long lasting and perfect for smaller children. Each page has full colour illustrations and the familiar Peppa Pig characters will make this a great choice for any Peppa Pig fan – or any child that loves a noisy book!

Starting School

This has been quite an appropriate book for LP this month as she started school recently. Starting School from Priddy Books comes complete with a whiteboard style pen and the pages are thick and well made, coated nicely so that LP can write on and wipe off as she pleases.

Each page of the book has an activity to complete from writing letters, simple sums and tracing the path of a bus on the road. Some of the activities are the right stage for LP at the moment – drawing over a dotted line to make shapes for example, but others are a bit harder and she will grow into them as her journey through school this year progresses.

We found it best to wipe clean the pages after each use so that they don’t stain from the pen but they wipe clean easily and LP loves to complete each page again and again. A great investment for any child getting ready for starting school.

Playtown is another book from Priddy Books. The book is really big with thick card pages and more flaps than I have ever seen in a book. Each page double page in the book explores one area of Playtown and under each flap is not only a lovely picture but lots of writing about that part of Lazytown too.

LP absolutely loves this book and spends hours opening and closing flaps, discovering new flaps and looking at all the pictures. LP loves to explore Playtown and finds all the people and parts of Playtown fascinating. This really is a wonderful book for any young mind – it will satisfy even the most inquisitive child!

Disclosure: We were sent the above books for the purpose of this post however all opinions are my own.
