Review: JORD Wooden Watch

Last year Hubby and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary and at the time I looked everywhere for a traditional wooden gift. One thing that was high on my list to get Hubby was a wooden watch as I had seen them online and loved them, they were so different! But I bought Hubby a watch for our first Christmas together and it has been repaired a couple of times since and I knew that Hubby would love to keep wearing that watch and wouldn’t really need another and so the moment passed.

Imagine my surprise though, when nearly a year after that an email lands in my inbox from JORD offering me the chance to review one of their beautiful wooden watches, ones that I had been looking at in my search the year before. I hadn’t thought of getting a watch for myself up until that point. I had stopped wearing a watch when I was pregnant with LP and relied solely on the clock on my phone. It was a great opportunity to get back into wearing a watch and I spent a long time looking at the wide range of wooden watches that JORD had to offer.

In the end I decided on the Ely in Natural Green and Maple. It is the smallest of JORD’s range of wooden watches with an effortless and understated design. I have very small wrists and don’t wear a lot of jewellery so I thought the smaller and simple design would be perfect for me. There were a few colour options too, from a natural Maple, Black, Cherry and my choice which is a greener looking mid tone wood. JORD use a variety of natural and sustainably sourced wood from across the globe.

The JORD watch arrived really quickly considering it was dispatched from America. It was sent by UPS and arrived in pristine condition. I was impressed with the JORD packaging – with a well made wooden presentation box and a JORD pillow that the watch arrived wrapped around. The watch also had a JORD logo tag attached to the watch and lots of information included – it was the perfect package.

The first thing I noticed about the JORD Ely watch was how beautiful it is. It truly is a work of art and is so incredibly well made. The wood grain can be seen in every piece of wood and there are no knots or imperfections on the watch at all – it is stunning.

The face of the watch is easy to read, with silver hands and markings on the face. The back of the watch face is a lighter wood that contrasts nicely with the band of the watch and it even features a date display. The watch is easy to adjust – as you would any other watch, and has a standard metal fastening that is easy to operate.

The JORD watch comes as a standard size but this can be adjusted as you would a standard watch – with a pin in each link. Any watch retailer would be able to remove links for you and also change the battery when it eventually runs out.

I haven’t worn a watch in literally years and love that my new watch is so unusual, a talking point and so beautiful to look at. Now that I have a wooden watch I don’t think I would ever want anything else – I’ll definitely be sticking with JORD watches in the future.

The JORD Ely watch has an RRP of $129
