Little Man is so determined to grow up, to copy his sister and get independence that when we were sent a FirstBIKE Balance Bike to review Little Man knew it was for him and shouted ‘My Bike!’ repeatedly until I put it together for him.
The Balance Bike comes in a range of colours and comes in many options – from the most basic up to racing bikes. We chose to review the Street FirstBIKE as he would mainly be using it on pavements and tarmac near where we live.
The Street FirstBIKE comes complete with a working brake, air filled tyres and a seat that can be raised as your child gets older. There’s also the option of a lowering kit if your child is shorter and not quite ready for the standard seat height.
The FirstBIKE didn’t take long to put together with clear instructions and lots of stickers to decorate the frame. The first thing I noticed were how lightweight the bike is and how the brake operates on the back wheel meaning that your child will never brake hard and fly over the handlebars!
Little Man got on his bike immediately – complete with the FirstBIKE Shark Helmet that we were also sent to keep him safe – and he felt like such a big boy! The main thing with a balance bike, as the name suggests, is that you need to learn to balance to use it well. As Little Man is only just over two balance isn’t one of his strong points but I know that will come in time and at the moment he is happy sitting on his bike and wheeling along.
The FirstBIKE is easy to adjust to the right size and Little Man is confident that he can maneuver the bike by himself – it’s light enough for him to use and he loves how he’s able to have his very own bike.
If you have a child that is trying to find their first step into bikes and that kind of independence FirstBIKE has a lot of options to suit every child and family.
The FirstBIKE Street has an RRP of £94.99 and the FirstBIKE range of helmets have an RRP of £28.99
