Adding Soreen to Lunchboxes #lunchboxheroes

Although LP and Little Man don’t yet have packed lunches at school we are always going on days out and packing lunches for them to take with us. Little Man often has a packed lunch after nursery too – eating it wherever we end up or even in the car.

But, we always get stuck in a lunch rut, packing the same things – sandwich, fruit, crisps – and so we have been looking for ways of updating the lunches we pack, finding new things to include but most importantly finding new things to put in lunch boxes that the children will both enjoy and will have good nutritional value too.

Over the last few weeks we have discovered Soreen Lunchbox Loaves. As the name suggests, they are the perfect size for lunch boxes and come in a range of flavours – although the new Banana Lunchbox Loaves seem to be most popular with the children.

Comparing Camberley Coffee Shops – Where has the best Tea?

When I gave up my day job back in November I started a new routine. I’d take the children to school, go to the gym and then head to a coffee shop for a nice cup of tea and to get some blog work done. This routine has continued since then and I’ve now managed to try all of the coffee shops in my local town to find out whee has the best tea for both type of tea and the value for money.

Gin Explorer Review and Giveaway

Anyone who knows me will know how much I love gin. It’s been my drink of choice for years and whether drinking socially in the evening, out with friends or at a summer garden party it is always the drink I go for.

I also love a subscription box so when Gin Explorer got in contact I couldn’t have thought of a more perfect combination for me – a monthly subscription box of gin! Gin Explorer sent me their December box to see for myself what their great idea is actually like.

Yazoo No Added Sugar Review and Giveaway!

I have drunk Yazoo since I was a child – it was always a lovely treat on the grocery shopping day and I remember, as they didn’t need refrigerating we could always have Yazoo in the cupboard for milk drink emergencies!

Yazoo No Added Sugar Review and Giveaway!

But now, years later, not only are the children getting to enjoy Yazoo too but there’s also a new range of No Added Sugar drinks – so they can have that same lovely milk drink without the sugar.

The new range of comes in three great flavours – Strawberry, Banana and Toffee. The children loved all the flavours although LP wasn’t as keen on the toffee as it was just a bit too sweet and sickly for her liking but Little Man couldn’t get enough of it.

Yazoo No Added Sugar Review and Giveaway!

LP and Little Man love milk based drinks and we have a lot of milkshake powders at home but these are always messy, always have lumps in and are just not that convenient. With Yazoo they always have their favourite drinks ready to enjoy. They love them after school, as a treat on a weekend or even in lunch boxes and on a day out – although, to me, they are a lot tastier straight from the fridge.

Yazoo No Added Sugar Review and Giveaway!

No Added Sugar Yazoo is now a fixture in our fridge – with no artificial sweeteners, colours or flavours it’s great for the children to drink whenever they want it – and Hubby and I might have been enjoying it too! We all love Yazoo and it still has that same great taste I remember from childhood.

Yazoo No Added Sugar Review and Giveaway!

I have teamed up with Yazoo to give away a month’s supply of Yazoo to one lucky reader. To be in with a chance of winning your choice of flavour just complete at least one entry on the Rafflecopter below. Good luck!

An Evening with a Brand New Vegetable – Kalettes!

A few days ago I was invited to London to spend an evening learning about a brand new vegetable – Kalettes. I didn’t even know you could make new vegetables. I pretty much thought that the vegetables that we could buy in shops were ones that had always grown and would always grow – but knowing that more vegetables can be invented and produced is pretty amazing.

An Evening with a Brand New Vegetable - Kalettes!

Kalettes has been 15 years in the making. It’s a cross between kale and brussels sprouts and is set to be a great alternative to sprouts this Christmas. The combination of kale and brussels takes the edge off both vegetables, making Kalettes a great vegetable for people who may not be keen on brussels sprouts – but people who love brussels or kale will be sure to love Kalettes too!

We spent the evening at Catus Kitchens, home to the Michel Roux cookery school. The evening started with drinks and snacks – Five Spice Kalettes and Kalettes Sushi! It was a great introduction and nice to get to know the other bloggers too.

We then got to see the Saturday Kitchen set where the show is filmed which was fantastic – seeing such an iconic kitchen firsthand. The lovely Mel took some photos of me in the kitchen and I can imagine that standing there in front of a TV audience would be pretty nerve wracking!

It was then time to make our way to the cookery school kitchens where we were taught how to cook using Kalettes as well as finding out more about the product. The chef showed us how to cook a chicken supreme, stuffed with Kalettes, roasted red pepper and gruyere cheese. It’s not the sort of thing I would cook at home usually and so it was great to learn a new recipe and a really versatile way of using Kalettes too.

We then got to make the dish ourselves and it was quite fun! I had Dave for company whilst we were cooking and it was a great way to really reinforce the recipe rather than just watching someone else cook it for us.

We also made a side salad of Kalettes, beetroot and chestnuts – topped with goats cheese that would be a fantastic side to have at Christmas and a great alternative to brussels sprouts. Plus, it was super easy to make and took no time at all which, on a busy Christmas day, is always a positive.

The chef had cooked roast potatoes for us and we plated our meal up and then went to a big dining room to enjoy our dinner together. It was the perfect end to a lovely evening and I know I’ll be cooking both of these dishes again in the future.

An Evening with a Brand New Vegetable - Kalettes!

Kalettes really does combine the best flavours of both kale and brussels sprouts, creating a sweet and nutty vegetable that is just so versatile – it can be sautéed, roasted, grilled or even eaten raw. You can find out more about Kalettes over on their website – it will definitely be featuring in our Christmas dinner and many other meals before and after too!
