This year marks 150 Years since Beatrix Potter was born. Beatrix Potter was so much more than the author and illustrator that we have all come to love. She was an artist, storyteller, botanist, environmentalist, farmer and businesswoman. Now 150 years after her birth, we are celebrating the incredible life she led and the achievements she accomplished, many of which were unrecognised during her lifetime.

Peter Rabbit is the oldest licensed character in the world after Beatrix Potter registered him at the Patent Office in December 1903 and that much loved character has led on to so much more. Nowadays one Beatrix Potter book is sold somewhere in the world every 15 seconds and The Tale of Peter Rabbit has been translated into over 45 languages including a hieroglyphic edition. It just shows that so many years after Beatrix Potter’s death she has left a legacy that has inspired so many generations – and continues to do so.

I have loved Beatrix Potter since my own childhood. I remember fondly when our local supermarket had an offer on to get Beatrix Potter books for £1 each when you bought something – maybe jam – and my parents let me have a book every week with the weekly shop. We had so much jam but they just loved fuelling my love of reading with these gorgeous hardback Beatrix Potter books which I read countless times.

Now, as an adult I still love Beatrix Potter – and had a lovely Peter Rabbit themed gift from The Biscuiteers which couldn’t have been a better way to commemorate 150 Years of Beatrix Potter!

Over Easter we will be visiting the Peter Rabbit Adventure Playground at Willows Activity Farm and will be writing about the lovely Beatrix Potter themed day out. Until then, we have a wonderful competition for you as part of this blog tour. Below you can enter to win a great range of Beatrix Potter goodies which includes: A Mothercare Newborn Set (shawl, mittens & hat and bodysuit), Peter Rabbit Baby Milestone Cards from Puffin Books, Charbonnel et Walker Chocolate Peter Rabbit, Gund Peter Rabbit Soft Toy and a Family Ticket to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction.

  1. Peter rabbit .. he’s just like me as a child i wanted to know everything & never listen to what my mom said

  2. Jemima Puddleduck was always my favourite.. I even had a Jemima Puddleduck knitted toy with her little blue cape. My mum used to love reading the Beatrix Potter stories to me, then I learnt to read them myself, and I fell in love with reading – I now do an English degree and have two gorgeous baby nieces we read the stories of Peter Rabbit to too, this is such a fantastic giveaway!

  3. Jemima Puddleduck, my mother used to make soft toys about 45 years ago to sell at a large department store, and I remember this being my real favourite. The Beatrix Potter stories are beautiful and so timeless!
