Al Fresco Dining {The Ordinary Moments}

One thing I love about the summer is eating in the garden. Whether it’s a barbecue or our usual dinner it feels so much nicer outside. The children can go effortlessly from playing to eating and after dinner they can play again until bathtime.

Garden dinners are so much more relaxed, everyone is less rushed and it feels that much more sociable to be outside, having a meal, having a drink and talking about our day. We talk about the next day, our plans and the food. Even the children join in the conversations and it’s lovely to spend time together outside in the evening.

We love picnics too, and lunches on the grass but dinners are my favourite meal to eat in the garden as it always feels like such a luxury to still be warm enough to eat outside in the evening. Sometimes we’ll cheat and have a 3pm ‘Sunday lunch’ type dinner, just to squeeze it in before the air gets cooler – and then have tea later in the day to fill the kids up before bed.

But my favourite thing? A barbecue at dinner time with the children, family or friends. Not too many people but enough to enjoy those sunny evenings together, relax, socialise and appreciate some of the best days you can have in the UK. Those sunny days with good company, good food and maybe an ice cream afterwards!

  1. Their little bench is so cute, we need to get something like that for the girls to sit outside- where did you get it from? And I agree with you totally, there is nothing better than al fresco dining! I just wish it would go sunny again! x

  2. I must admit we should really use our decking area and eat outside more often. We have just returned from holiday and we ate out lots which was lovely. I am definitely going to embrace eating outdoors more (once it stops raining of course) x

  3. It always feels like such a treat to eat outdoors, a real holiday feeling. Love their little table! #OrdinaryMoments

  4. I can’t believe we haven’t managed to have a BBQ yet this year, or even eat outside. I think it’s because we don’t have our table and chairs permanently in the garden so it feels like such an effort to get them out! Hopefully when we eventually move we’ll have a big enough garden to eat outside more often. Your two look so cute sitting at their little table together.
