We are lucky enough to be new Book Buddies with Parragon Books and will be reviewing a lovely toddler friendly book every month from now on – So watch this space for lovely books for your little people.
We received our first book this month and LP couldn’t wait to tear the packaging open – I kept her away long enough to take a couple of photos. Thank You for Being my Friend came in a gift set of a lovely hardback book and matching cuddly horse toy all in a lovely presentation box.
As soon as I’d taken a couple of photos LP took the book and the horse and took herself off to her armchair to read. Don’t get me wrong, LP loves books but I have never seen her love a book as much as she did this one and I think that is down to the horse toy – She kept saying ‘new horsey’ over and over whilst flicking through the book.
Thank You for Being my Friend is about a horse and how he is scared of the dark, thinking he can see monsters around the room and hear them downstairs overnight but he has a little friend who keeps him company and makes him feel safe so that he can sleep better. His friend also explains that the monsters are just shadows and noises, not monsters at all!
The story wasn’t what I was expecting when LP and I sat down to read but it was a lovely story that would teach children that there’s nothing to be scared of in the dark and if they need a new cuddly friend they have a horse toy to keep them company.
LP and I really enjoyed the book, it had lovely illustrations on every page and to get a book for a toddler with a good quality hard back was a real treat – most toddler books are either board books or paperback books. This book is beautiful and I know it will be a firm favourite for a long time to come.
Disclosure: We were sent this book for the purpose of the review however all opinions are my own.
